The wrong goal
More Enquiries Is Not The Goal For A Cambridge Supplier
For a Cambridge business whose quotes take hours to produce, an unqualified enquiry is not neutral. It is a cost.

A consumer business wants volume because quoting is cheap. A machine shop, a fabricator, a contract manufacturer or a specialist trade in Cambridge is in a different position: producing a real Cambridge quote can take an estimator half a day, and the enquiry that arrives without a drawing, a quantity or a realistic budget consumes that time and produces nothing.
So the website has a job most briefs never mention. It should be stating clearly enough what you do, and more importantly what you do not do, that a person who was never going to be a customer closes the tab. Every one of those is time given back to the people who can buy.
This is the opposite of the usual advice, and it is why a generic website design cambridge project can deliver a perfectly attractive site that makes the business worse. The form gets easier to fill in, the copy gets broader, the enquiry count goes up and the estimator drowns. Web design cambridge quotes are almost always written against enquiry volume, because that is the number everybody agrees is good.
It is worth saying that this applies to the industrial half of the city rather than all of it. Web design in cambridge for a clinic, a restaurant or a retailer follows the ordinary rules and more enquiries really are better. The filter argument is for businesses where producing a quote is expensive, and in a manufacturing city that is a large share of them.
